Halloween & Zombie Babies

Happy Halloween!

We’re catching up and sipping on this slightly spooky cocktail…

Slimericky

Slime Ricky (adapted from Everyday Food)

  • Simple syrup made from a 2:1 ratio of sugar to fresh lime juice
  • 1.5 oz gin (optional)
  • club soda
  • frozen green grapes
  1. Freeze grapes until firm. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, stir together sugar and lime juice; bring to a boil. Simmer until sugar has dissolved and liquid is syrupy, about 2 minutes. Let cool completely, 30 minutes.

  2. Stir together lime syrup, frozen grapes, and (if using) gin. Top with club soda. Serve immediately.

We chat about about how we get into the Halloween spirit, how we decorate, and our thoughts on costumes. Erica hosts an annual Halloween party, so the pressure’s on for good costumes this year, and she shares her tips for a successful bash. (This costume role reversal video is pretty hilarious.)

Candy is everywhere this time of year, so we talk about favorite candy, what we’re passing out to trick-or-treaters this year, and what trick-or-treating was like for us as kids.

In current obsessions, Erica is loving the Plum Moscato & Almond Harvest lotion and shower gel from Bath & Body Works. Kelsey is rocking some shimmery new eye shadow (Lola from Modern Minerals).

In neighborhood news, we’re scoping out some stellar neighborhood Halloween decorations and having scary run-ins with another rogue chihuahua. Kelsey’s stalking the neighborhood bakery, but we’re not happy at all with a neighborhood fondue place. Kelsey discovered a fondue conspiracy.

Thanks so much for listening! We’d love to hear what you’re dressing up as this year and what Halloween candy you can’t stop eating. Connect with us on twitter or send us an email! If you like the show, head over to iTunes and subscribe so you don’t miss an episode. We’d so appreciate a review or rating while you’re there!

  1. I have a story about zombie babies. My team at work put on a Foster Care appreciation party for our families in Corpus Christi a couple of weeks ago and the theme was Superhero night, but we said the kids should just come in their costumes for Halloween if they had them. Well, some of the parents decided to dress up too, which is fine, but there was this one Foster mom who wore a bloody t-shirt with cutouts for the limbs and head of a baby doll.
I had several thoughts on this, the first being “what is she trying to say here? creepy”, followed by “wait, how did you become a foster parent?”
Evidently there’s a similar costume idea floating around Pinterest for pregnant women as a zombie baby type thing, but she looked like she was in her 50’s, so that probably wasn’t it for her.
Kels, if you still need an idea…^^ 🙂
