Simplifying & Lawnmower Shrapnel

This episode we're talking all about minimizing and simplifying while sipping on a cocktail Erica simply made up…

Apricotbasilspritzer

Apricot Basil Spritzer

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 2 oz apricot nectar
  • 1 oz basil simple syrup
  • Pour over ice and top with Apricot LaCroix sparkling water.

Before we get into the topic, we have a big announcement! We're speaking at the Mom 2.0 Summit in Scottsdale at the end of the month about one of our very favorite things! We're leading a podcasting workshop and hope to meet some of you there!

Minimizing is certainly trendy these days, and we're feeling inspired. Kelsey loves the ideas from The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up and Mr. Money Mustache We discuss the ways we've been simplifying or minimizing and how we're getting organized around the house. We're dishing about the benefits, the drawbacks, the areas we refuse to minimize, and our future simplification goals (Erica's photo organization system needs some major help. Perhaps Chatbooks should be part of the solution).

In current obsessions, Erica is insanely inspired by Clean Mama: Everyday Life Simplified (thanks to listener Dawn!), and Kelsey is rocking some beachy hair thanks to this L'Oreal beach spray.

In neighborhood news, Erica is officially a library card holder finally. There is an unsafe lawnmower situation going on across the street, and we're seriously considering crashing another neighborhood hangout.

Thanks so much for listening! We'd so appreciate it if you'd subscribe on iTunes, leave us a review, or share us with a friend.

  1. Erica I was so happy to hear that Clean Mama has been an inspiration for you!
Kelsey – you will love her cleaning recipes – try her Peppermint Daily Shower Cleaning Spray containing vodka. A refreshing cocktail for your shower 😉
I convinced my mother to start following her too and she called me the other day saying, “I can’t believe after 40 years of marriage that I am now finally figuring out an easy way to clean my house because of this lady!”. It’s only been 6 years of marriage for me but it feels like 40 because of my struggles with cleaning until discovering this website. I’m ready to handout flyers to strangers. Ha

  3. As always, loved the podcast! Most of my life I’ve been torn between my pack-rat tendencies and the collective legacy of a long line of Swiss-German housewives who kept immaculate households. So shows like this one really speak to both impulses. 🙂 My husband and I (and our two young children) are in the process of downsizing. Although our reasons are partially due to factors beyond our control, we are also excited about unburdening ourselves from all the unnecessary stuff so that we are free to do the things that are truly important to us. Thank you for the inspiration along the way!

  5. That shower spray sounds amazing! That’s so funny about your mom. I understand! Sometimes you just need some outside help to give you a new perspective or a new approach to something and it changes everything! Thanks so much for sharing this with us!

  7. Haha, Swiss-German housewives sound intimidating! I will not be tracking any mud into their homes! Good for you turning a downsizing into a positive by getting rid of stuff, I think you will find it’s very freeing, best of luck!
