Goals Update & Naked Batman

Campari Shandy
from Molly Wizenburg via Food52
serves 1

2 ounces Campari
12 ounces light beer, we used Blue Moon Belgian White
lime wedge

Pour Campari into a chilled glass; add beer and stir. Top with squeezed lime and drop in the wedge. We preferred ours with a few ice cubes to keep it extra cold but some might consider that a faux pax.

2015 is only half over but it’s already been a big year! We listen back to our 2015 goals and intentions and check in on how we’re doing.

In obsessions Erica loves her freshened up living room and Kelsey is enjoying getting her news in her inbox via The Skimm.

In neighborhood news people are driving down the street way too fast and there’s a bit too much birthday suit running around by a certain young superhero for Erica’s taste.

  1. I teared up tonight listening to the tail end of the podcast when you discussed how hard this stage of parenting is. The lack of sleep, the being constantly needed, the herculean effort it takes to keep calm and find more patience when the well has run dry at the end of the day…all of it. And it’s wonderful, too, of course. But that doesn’t negate how very, very challenging and exhausting it all is. Thank you for sharing your experiences; it was just the boost I needed.

  3. And on a different note–my husband is a transportation engineer who works in the public sector and he attends meetings all the time for neighborhoods that want to put in “traffic calming” (speed bumps being the most common). Kelsey, I bet you can work your magic with the town to get you or your HOA a meeting with someone in the transportation or public works dept.

  5. Aw, Sarah, sending hugs. Is it SO HARD and it can be easy to feel that others aren’t experiencing that. I’m so glad that we could offer some encouragement and empathy. You are doing a great job!
YESSS I am drafting a letter to our HOA now!

  7. I did listen to your podcast after you mentioned it in the Checkout line in Safeway. I listened to your “putzy husbands” podcast and this episode. A couple of notes: I am from a city very close to your co-host Erika in Wisconsin. Ask her if she knows any place to get a Kringle around here. Being from Racine, she will know exactly what I am talking about. And I loved that you referred to me as “The Safeway Guy”. It was fitting in ways you can only imagine. I go to that store more than anyone it seems despite the fact that I think it is one of the worst grocery stores. Location, location, location. I do all cooking/grocery shopping in my household of 5. I find it incredibly frustrating trying to grocery shop in this neighborhood. I feel like I need to go at least 3 different stores almost every week. Sprouts for produce, Safeway for stuff I can’t afford at Sprouts, and Costco for everything else. Ugh. Sprouts is great btw. Keep up the good work on the show!

  9. Kelsey, I just heard from the sorta awesome podcast that tart cherry juice is supposed to help adults AND littles to fall asleep easier and STAY ASLEEP LONGER! The suggestion was to make Popsicles out of it if your little guy won’t drink it. Just a little tip I thought I’d pass along! 😉

  11. I’m immediately putting everyone in my family on a cherry juice diet! 😉 Thanks for the tip, have never heard of this!

  13. Hey! Thanks so much for listening, I love this! In fact, Erica has told me of this mythical Kringle and occasionally her family sends her some and she shares it with us. But sadly I don’t think there’s a source here (although maybe Trader Joe’s had some seasonally last year – ??). I’m a Trader Joe’s fan myself although do begrudgingly run to Safeway when I forget something, as you witnessed.

  15. Shout out to you Kelsey– I have a three year old and I’m also a morning person and would LOVE to have time to myself before she wakes up but it’s been really difficult to make this happen without her waking up. We co-sleep and if I stay in bed with her she’ll sleep until 7, but if I get up to have time alone she inevitably wakes up. So frustrating! Also, I totally love the skimm too– I’m very sensitive and visiting cnn.com can wreck my day, but I feel great about getting my news from the skimm.

  17. Hopefully we both get some precious morning time back in the next year (or two? that’s reasonable right??). Yes, so enjoying theSkimm! The refugee crisis has been really hard for me to read about lately but at least the details are pretty concise and I can skip it easily. I definitely feel more in the know and that feels good.
