Fall Extravaganza & Brawny Woodsman

It’s time for our annual Fall Extravaganza episode. An entire show dedicated to our freakish love of fall.

Autumnpalmer

Autumn Palmer (adapted from A Beautiful Mess)

1 part lemonade (I used sparkling lemonade)
1 part apple cider
1.5 ounces whiskey
a pinch of cinnamon

(Kelsey also had the best of intentions to make Joy the Baker’s creamy pumpkin pie bars)

Fall is taking over the internet. We loved what Meagan and Sarah and Kelle had to say about it, so we’re weighing in too. We talk all about what fall is truly like here in the desert.

We’re fall-ifying our houses with Mrs. Meyer’s Orange Clove Dish Soap, Bath and Body Works’ Sweater Weather, Pumpkin Apple, Leaves candle scents and Bright Autumn Day, and Crisp Morning Air soap and hand cream. We test our fall sniffers with a blind smell test of a fall candle. Our littles are even playing with homemade pumpkin spice playdough, and reading Halloween books, and playing with seasonal toys and Kelsey’s cooking up her favorite lentil soup.

We celebrate Falliday with the exchange of traditional Falliday gifts, and dish about how we’re celebrating Halloween this year.

In current obsessions, Kelsey’s obsessed with unsubscribing to paper junk mail: PaperKarma and Catalog Choice
Trader Joe’s coconut body butter (it also comes in pumpkin!)
Erica’s loving the book, Happiest Toddler on the Block which is changing her perspective on raising a 2 year old cavewoman. This reminded Kelsey of the Janet Landsbury’s Unruffled podcast on parenting toddlers.

In neighborhood news, Kelsey is very disappointed that the census man has not shown up on her doorstep yet, and Erica had a very awkward non-meeting of the new neighbor. There are some very creepy neighborhood Halloween decorations, and Kelsey is very excited about Nextdoor, a private online social network where you can connect with your neighbors.

  1. Loved this! You guys are the cutest. I’ve tried searching for your pumpkin spice coffee creamer but can’t find it. Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks!

  3. Hahaha, you can totally come visit any time! I didn’t mean to hit below the belt with my fall card, although it did truly look like that for about a week. Of course, that level of fall comes with some other… shall we say, side effects…. Like winter temperatures in the -40s.
Then again, speaking of brawny woodsmen: https://youtu.be/aaJeBjTUZ4s?t=3m3s

  7. We loved it! And yes, for every season of amazing weather there is a season of un-amazing weather, or you live in a place with no seasons at all and that must have its own drawbacks.
This video is so funny! I went to a forestry school for graduate school and hung around many brawny forester types 🙂

  9. You guys made me so jealous! There are no fall scented candles in China—at least, not that I’ve found. I bought a can of pumpkin this weekend though. My goal is to bake my Nan’s pumpkin chocolate chip cookies (http://www.sunshineandwhimsy.net/2011/10/pumpkin-chocolate-chip-cookies.html ooh those photos make me cringe) and try ABM’s PSL syrup!

  11. I am adding these cookies to me fall to-do list, yum! Fall has really become quite the craze here! I’m sure the rest of the world will cat h up eventually. In the meantime, the PSL syrup will lend some fall to your coffee and life!

  12. Oh, you guys are the sweetest. Thank you for the shout-out (I’m a little behind in my listening and just heard it today!), and I’m so glad our warm-weather falls are represented in the podcastosphere. 😉 Also blind candle sniffing over audio broadcast has to be the best mashup of sensory experiences ever. Keep it.

  13. Haha, thanks, the candle scent quizzes are way too fun!

  14. Yay Fall!!! And I totally love the Janet Lansbury podcast too! Also, you’ve inspired me to unsubscribe from some junk mail, thanks.

  15. Woo hoo, get out of here junk mail!

  17. Just found my neighborhood on nextdoor.com. Such a great concept! Thanks for mentioning it.

  18. Awesome! This makes me so happy!

  20. I’ve been listening to the podcast for several weeks now, and I’ve been trying to make it through the current episode before I review or anything but it is so ridiculously awesome. Erica’s story about trying to meet the new neighbors had me laughing out loud at work in my cubicle, and my office is seriously quiet so people probably think I’m crazy. Such a good podcast!

  21. Haha, we love a good cubicle outburst!! Erica meets neighbors like no one else 😉 Thank you so much for listening and giving some love to our archives, seriously warms our hearts!
