Behind the Scenes & Under Construction

It's behind-the-scenes time, and it gets kinda crazy! We're pulling back the curtain to give you a peek at how we produce the show, how it all got started, and how the cocktail ritual on every episode has upped our cocktail game…
  Shrub

Raspberry shrub
from Food52
  • Combine 1 cup apple cider vinegar, 1 cup raspberries or other fruit, and 1 cup sugar in a small saucepan. Heat until close to boiling and stir until all sugar is dissolved.
  • Remove shrub syrup from heat and strain into a jar, let cool. Syrup can be stored in fridge for up to a month.
  • To make the cocktail, combine 1 oz gin with 1 oz shrub syrup and top with tonic or sparkling water over ice.

We discuss how the show happens, the logistics of recording, our favorite things about the show as opposed to the parts that feel like work, and our future hopes and dreams for the show.

A few of our favorite episodes:
Parenting Toddlers & Nothing Is Easy
Fall Extravaganza 1
Fall Extravaganza 2
"What's in your purse" episode
Cleaning episode
Dr. Fitness & Marriage Maintenance
Marriage & Putzy Husbands
Marriage as Parents & Mothballs
Mom 2.0 & Dry Shampoo

In current obsessions, Erica is learning a ton from the book Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids and Kelsey is high-fiving herself for her freezer breakfast burritos

In neighborhood news, we are literally under construction (like during the recording of this show), and we met a new neighbor in a windy turn of events.

Thanks so much to all who have used Our Amazon link to support the show!

Thanks so much for dropping in…until next time, be neighborly!

  1. I love love love your podcast! I’ve been working my way through your old shows, and I only have the very first one left to listen to. It was fun to listen to this behind the scenes show before I listen to that one.

  2. I have been following your podcast for a long time. I felt the nostalgia of the make up bag episode and the mom 2.0 episode when (how could we forget) Kelsey was confused about the dry shampoo. I just wanted to let you know that I love your podcast as well, and that the reason I do it’s because I do feel like I am there having a drink with you and chatting.
What episode is this? Are you close to the 100th? cause that will be a good one to celebrate.
Thank you so much for doing this, I don’t know what would I do if TGNP was gone one day.
Note: I hope you receive a bunch of coasters through snail mail from your audience, I mean, we owe you at least that.

  3. Thank you so much! Oh man, the first show is from the deep archives, and with different theme music!

  4. I need to see how many episodes we have – we should hit 100 this year, crazy! Haha, I welcome any coaster gifts, it is so ridiculous that I can’t buy them.

  5. Would you mind sharing what kind of microphones you guys are using? I am looking on Amazon and there are a gazillion and the prices are all over the place. I want to go for the $50 version, but aaah, what if moving up to $100 would be better?! Advice?
    Thanks!!
Also (and I should have started with this), I loved this episode! I’ve been a long time listener and it’s so fun! Always so happy to see an episode pop up!

  6. Yes! So many choices! Check out this blog post for how we podcast: http://www.risingshining.com/2014/04/how-to-podcast-the-equipment.html
I am very happy with the Electro Voice that I use so I would recommend that one between the two we use.
But recently I have heard very good things about the ATR 2100 and although I haven’t used it they use it on the Coffee + Crumbs podcast which sounds great and the price on that is great. http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATR2100-USB-Cardioid-Dynamic-Microphone/dp/B004QJOZS4

  7. Ilike the recipe because of its simplicity.thanks
