How to Football Fan

Down, set, hike! Huddle up as Erica gives Kelsey the play by play of becoming a football fan. We both recount our own football fan memory lanes before Coach Ladd breaks down the rules of the game for us.

Along the way, we talk about what snacks to serve when watching football and how to encourage football family culture. Plus, Kelsey gets football homework.

Just for Friends of the Show on Patreon, we’re playing fantasy football…boyfriends edition!

Mentioned on the show:

Erica’s Taco Dip

Dip:
2 packages cream cheese, softened
1 cup sour cream
1 package taco seasoning
1/3 c medium heat taco sauce (I use Old El Paso for this)

Toppings:
Shredded lettuce
Shredded cheddar cheese
Tomatoes
Black olives

Mix dip ingredients with a hand mixer or in a stand mixer and spread in a thin layer on a large serving tray or cookie sheet. Layer on the toppings one at a time. Chill covered with tin foil in the fridge for at least 2 hours. Serve with tortilla chips.

  1. What are the best dippers for the beer dip? Sounds great!

My husband passed away in April, pancreatic cancer sucks. I have a seven and eight year-old, both boys so I’m committed to getting into football. This episode was helpful, I think I need the flash cards! Thanks for the podcast, it’s a bright spot.

    1. Oh Erin our hearts go out to you. I love that football can be a fun tradition you can get into with your boys. I will update the post now with links to the bingo and study guide! For dipping in beer cheese you really can’t go wrong but: sliced french bread or soft pretzel chunks, pita chips, or a sturdy tortilla chip. Happy football-ing!

      1. Thank you ❤️

  2. Wow, this episode was fantastic and so much fun! Thanks, ladies! I land between Erica and Kelsey in my football fandom, but my 10-year-old son somehow knows 10x more about NFL than me. I think I could benefit from that Bingo card—for my knowledge, enjoying the game, and making memories as a family. Thanks for the dip recipes!

    1. Thank you so much, Beth! I will update the post now with links to the bingo and study guide so you can try to hold your own. Some people (and kids!) just really have a mind for facts and stats it’s wild!

      1. Awesome, thanks so much!

  3. This was such a fun episode! I’m a few weeks behind but I can share some tips on how to watch NFL games for a low cost.

First, it’s good to understand when & where games are played.

Thursday night games are the start of the “NFL week” and those games are on Prime (paid membership required).

Saturday games are all college football which is an area that I have no expertise in.

Sunday day time NFL games are on CBS, ABC and Fox. Sunday night games are on NBC (or Peacock).

Monday night games are broadcast on ESPN or ABC.

We own a few inexpensive sets of “bunny ears” and use those on our tv to find the local affiliate stations for CBS, ABC, NBC and Fox. You will only get the games that are available in your region aka market. But it’s free after the initial purchase. Hope that is helpful to someone! 😊

    1. Great tips – thank you! Yes, I find just the task of figuring out how and when to watch a bit daunting! I ended up buying ESPN+ for the season to get Longhorn games and put the games times on my calendar – that is making it feel easier to catch the games!
